Beneficial effects of training in self-distancing and perspective broadening for people with a history of recurrent depression
Some of our recent work at C2AD has been on targeting active components of gold-standard therapy for major depression through interventions that are easier to access. We found that Self-Distancing and Perspective Broadening training is a promising clinical technique. Individuals who completed the training when remitted from depression demonstrated increased ability to distance and broaden perspectives on negative events, and training reduced distress to upsetting memories and to newly encountered events. Training also reduced residual depression symptoms.
