The service is initially being run as part of a pragmatic clinical trial in comparison to usual care. The CSDS offers specialist and coordinated psychiatric, psychological and nursing care for refractory depression and is funded by the NIHR CLAHRC and the MRC. The trial will run for 2 years and is in collaboration with the University of Nottingham. Emily Hammond, the research associate on the trial, will be based at the HSB.
