We have recently published some work exploring a novel training programme that aims to isolate active components of current gold standard intervention for relapse prevention. The programme, Self-Distancing and Perspective Broadening Training, was effective at reducing distress to upsetting memories and reducing residual symptoms of depression in those who were currently remitted from depression, relative to an Overcoming Avoidance control condition. The results suggested that self-distancing and perspective broadening is a promising clinical technique.
