Mindfulness in Schools

We have delighted to report that the C2:AD and colleagues in Oxford and Exeter have been successful in their application for a large Wellcome Trust Strategic Award entitled ‘Promoting Mental Health and Building Resilience in Adolescence: Investigating Mindfulness and Attentional Control’.

Mindfulness has proven effective in relapse prevention for those who experience recurrent depression. We are currently exploring whether mindfulness may also be used to prevent the onset of depression. In collaboration with researchers at The University of Oxford and University College London, we will be recruiting schools to determine whether training adolescents in mindfulness helps to reduce risk of depression. We will also be completing a number of experiments to determine the effect of mindfulness practice on different cognitive abilities, and in particular, executive control.  We are looking at starting the project in September 2015.
